Small Satellite Manufacturing

Airbus U.S. Space & Defense's Merritt Island, Florida final assembly line is where Airbus manufactures small satellites in the United States. Located in the Space Coast's Exploration Park, this state-of-the-art facility is where Airbus employees build and integrate the ARROW family of satellites, including the ARROW150 and the new ARROW450, for various commercial and government customers. The ARROW150 satellite is an affordable platform for high-performance space applications, while the larger, more modular ARROW450 offers greater versatility and capability to support a wider range of missions.

Innovative Satellite Manufacturing

The Airbus OneWeb Satellites (AOS) joint venture team developed an innovative approach to satellite manufacturing and supply chain collaboration, which resulted in the production of two satellites per day. This significantly transformed the small satellite industry. The facility, which began as a pioneering joint venture, mass-produced over 600 satellites that are currently in orbit as part of the OneWeb first generation (“GEN1”) commercial telecommunications satellite constellation.

ARROW 450

The ARROW satellite bus is Airbus’ innovative, responsive, versatile, and affordable platform designed for high-performance space applications. Its design-for-manufacturing approach, derived from the OneWeb commercial satellite constellation, allows ARROW to be produced cost-effectively in an assembly line process, making it particularly attractive for both commercial and government customers, especially for the proliferated LEO constellations envisioned by the U.S. government. ARROW is a commoditized space vehicle that can support a wide range of missions, including high data-rate low latency communications, collection and tracking of radio frequency sensing data, Earth observation with a high revisit, machine to machine communications, internet of things research, and in-orbit technology demonstration missions.
